"ALL COMPOSED BY PAUL MOTIAN". In other words, all tunes is free JAZZ.
The bassist is Charlie Haden.
Member and their instruments differ from according to the number. One number is a solo play by Paul Motian.
Keith Jarrett is participating with the flute as well as the piano.
The album title is a name of a tune where the Paul Motian and Keith Jarrett play in duo. Only is popular Keith playing the piano and did Manfred Eicher make it to the album title name? If it is so, it is regrettable.
PickUp
2. CH'I ENERGY
Paul Motian' solo. Please be satisfied with completely opened Paul Motian . Real Paul!
3. Rebica
It is basically free. Paul and Charlie Haden play very freely. There is no an assetive story making that most free jazz performance tends to go into. It is very natural. When becoming tired on our business, it heals us.
4. Conception Vessel
Duo of Paul Motian and Keith (p). I think it is the worst tune in this work. Keith makes too much sounds compared to Paul. So only the piano sound by Keith in this tune is annoying when we listen to the whole album.
Keith must have played this as a free JAZZ, but it is a common material which we can see in other Keith's recordings at this age. Therefore Keith's performance doesn't have freshness. It seems like that he reused the material of his improvisation that was spent in other old works because he thought the recording of Paul Motian would not be sold well.
(Here, I have to inform you, Keith Jarret is actually one of thw my favorite pianists . )
5. American Indian: Song Of Sitting Bull
Duo by Paul Motian and Keith (flute). The flute play of Keith sounds like the bamboo flute. It is hard to understand that it is the sound of flute, if we are not told that it is flute. Possibly it might be a kind of "rhetoric" by Kieth. It is better for this album than the previous piano, from the viewpoint whether it matches the concept of this whole album.
6. Inspiration from a Vietnamese Lullaby
There is a violin participation.
